Standpipe demand is determined by the design criteria in effect when the system is designed and installed. Those criteria establish the required flow, pressure, and hydraulic characteristics based on the building’s layout, hazard classification, and intended protection at that time. Tests, commissioning, and maintenance verify that the installed system meets and remains within those criteria, but they don’t redefine the demand itself. If the design criteria change and a new design is done, the demand would then be updated, but conceptually it’s anchored to the installation time design.
